Sorry for the lack of posting. To put it simply I have been lazy!
Anyway, having missed the whole hoopla of the local election blogging I will restart the blog with a post about Mike German (although I will in time give my views on how things went down with the local elections just for the hell of it).
Watching Sharpe end last night I certainly got the impression that Mike was at odds with his Assembly group when he choose to stay on as leader of the Lib Dems. At the start of the interview he said this would be until October, by the end he said he “could” be leaving by the end of the year. Peter Black is obviously one AM in the Lib Dem group that doesn’t quite see the same level of support that mike did at the meeting. I would hazard a guess that he is not the only Lib Dem AM unhappy about this but sure enough the only one willing to speak publicly on the matter. For now at least!
The Lib Dems had a good local election campaign (something they vitally needed after yet another poor Assembly one) but another long drawn out leadership contest will be a bitter blow to that momentum. They are already struggling at an Assembly level. After three elections their numbers are the same as at the first Assembly. Their position is relitivly insignificant in that they are not part of a Government or in any sort of opposition to challenge the One Wales Coalition. Their main candidate for the leadership Kirsty Williams has been tainted by the happenings of the Rainbow collapse. What they desperately need is a successful and enthusiastic new leader at the Assembly. Unfortunately for the Mike doesn’t seem to keen to let it go just yet.
